Love as part of Nature
What does it mean that love is the foundation of all life? Love is sustaining, not just for the individual but for the whole of nature. Love leads to more life, but not just through living. Dying, too. Because only through death can life happen. Love and sustaining happens to each being, seen and unseen, according to their nature. Love is the bee pollinating the chicory flower. Love is chicory flower feeding the bee. Love is the earth, rich with dead bees and dead chicory, feeding both. Love is in the daily emergence of one more blue flower and the flash of green visible to any who would pay attention. Love has been there all along, through billions of years of evolution to the death of stars, snuffing out solar systems.

It is only humans who think they have a "better plan," with our petty self-interest, profit, power-grabs, and progress. Our greatest gift is our greatest curse. With our ability to make meaning of this love, we also have the ability to reject it and live contrary to it. And because of our small-sightedness, we experience the darker side of this pervasive and non-preferential love. Even in our death and suffering, we and the world are loved. And we go to war against it, we "battle" it, we fear it.

Love is action. It is being. It is essence. It is no wonder the writers were able to say God is love... and whoever loves their neighbor loves God and is with God. God, love, the divine, Life... whatever you call it, it is in it's essence sustenance. May all beings partner with it and live in its flow.
